With jobless claims spiking to record levels due to the pandemic, Get Shift Done DMV helped people earn a basic income while also providing meals to neighbors in need. The initiative coordinated, scheduled, and paid adversely affected hourly workers in the hospitality industry to work shifts for local nonprofit food access providers.

Get Shift Done DMV, with founding investments from The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, Capital One, the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, and the Bainum Family Foundation, provided wages of $15 an hour to hospitality workers displaced by the coronavirus pandemic. These workers filled a critical gap for nonprofit food access providers facing unprecedented demand for their services while also struggling with a shortfall of volunteers.

Nearly 1,800 workers have worked over 59,000 hours for 32 nonprofits.
